On April 10th with the participation of Moscow Consciousness Studies Center at the philosophy department of the Moscow State University an unusual and unique in its area Round Table called “The Problem of Consciousness in Contemporary Continental Philosophy” was held.
It’s a common known fact that philosophy today can be divided into two types – Continental and Analytic Philosophy, that can seem dichotomous. What is the difference of the methods of philosophy of both types, and what are the differences in understanding of key points? These questions have been discussed during the conference in accordance with the classical philosophical theme of consciousness that most clearly marks the difference between the two types.
The head of the Department of Philosophy of Language and Communication MSU Ph.D. Anna Kostikova, the assistant professor of Ontology and Epistemology MSU Ph.D. Vasily Kuznetsov, and the assistant professor of the department of Ontology, Logics and Epistemology HSE Diana Gasparyan gave their views on the problems of Consciousness in Continental Philosophy. The moderator of the Round Table and its inspiration was the Head of the History of Foreign Philosophy PF MSU professor Ph.D. Vadim Vasilyev. The Round Table arose a great interest among the professors, the staff and the students of the university and the Department of History of Philosophy where it took place was nearly overcrowded. About 30 people took part in the Round Table, discussed, asked questions and commented the reports of the speakers. Among these participants there were both heads of Moscow Consciousness Studies Center, PhD, Dmitry Volkov, and the head of the Department of History of the Philosophy MSU Professor Ph.D. Vadim Vasilyev.
