Freedom of will, freedom to act according to our own will, largely defines us as thinking, creating, decision-making agents. Freedom determines the very value of life. But when it comes to freedom, paradoxes also arise there. After all, the more we learn about the genetic, physiological, neuronal, social determinants of our behavior, the less and less there is room for freedom, and thus there is less and less of ourselves in us. But it is for this disappearing freedom that people have been fighting throughout history, claiming its exceptional significance. How to reconcile deterministic ideas with free will is one of the most fascinating topics in modern philosophy. This is exactly what the lecture will be dedicated to.
