From July 27 to August 2, our new summer school was held on the island of Sicily in Palermo. This time the topic was the metaphysics of uploading. The invited guests were philosophers Eric Olson and Pietro Perconti.
Olson's lecture was devoted to the possibility of the existence of electronic intelligence and the preservation of personality when transferred to a computer or when gradually replacing neurons with their machine counterparts. Perconti talked about whether artificial intelligence is able to understand the meaning, and that cooperation with robots should displace the fear of them and the desire to keep them as slaves, as well as about the practical benefits of trust in robots.
