Artificial Intelligence: Unexplainable, Unpredictable, Uncontrollable. MCCS Research Seminar

15 May, 2026

On May 16, 2025, the Moscow Center for Consciousness Studies and the Department of the History of Foreign Philosophy held a session of the research seminar “New Ideas in Philosophy,” devoted to Roman Yampolskiy’s AI: Unexplainable, Unpredictable, Uncontrollable (2024).

Yampolskiy’s book AI: Unexplainable, Unpredictable, Uncontrollable addresses fundamental problems associated with artificial intelligence, including its unpredictability, opacity, and uncontrollability. The author combines technical analysis with philosophical reflection, discussing the nature of consciousness, intelligence, values, and control over AI. The book concludes with reflections on existential risks, AI rights, and the distinction between human and artificial minds.

The main ideas of the book were presented by the author himself, Roman Yampolskiy. The subsequent discussion featured Evgeny Loginov, Vadim Vasiliev, Dmitry Volkov, Artem Besedin, Anna Kostikova, Artem Yashin, Anton Kuznetsov, Taras Tarasenko, and Andrey Mertsalov.
